Inogen Founders Recognized by Inc. Magazine
3 founders named to Inc.com's List of "30 Under 30: America's Coolest Young Entrepreneurs"
SANTA BARBARA, CA -
Inc.com has announced its annual list of 30 rising, young
entrepreneurs. Inogen's founders Alison Perry, Brenton Taylor and Byron Myers
were among the 30 entrepreneurs; ranking 7, 8 and 6 respectively.
"We are flattered to have made this list. We are surrounded by so many talented,
like-minded entrepreneurs. So many of this year's honorees are experts at using
technology as a competitive tool to start and grow businesses in traditional
industries," said Inogen's Director of Technology Brenton Taylor.
Inogen was founded in 2001 when Alison, Brenton and Byron entered UCSB's
University's Center for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Management Business
Plan Competition. The group proposed a solution to Ali's grandmother's
frustration with her oxygen tanks. After receiving first place honors in the
competition, Alison, Byron, and Brenton collaborated to build a solid foundation for
the business, secured seed funding, and recruited a veteran management and
technical team.
Inogen's CEO Kathy Odell remarked, "Brenton, Byron and Ali encapsulate all the
characteristics successful entrepreneurs possess. They saw a void in the
marketplace and capitalized on it. They are the true risk takers of their
generation."
"The most successful entrepreneurs identify unmet needs in the marketplace –
often based on their own experiences – and decide to fill that void with new and
improved products," said Inc.com senior editor Rod Kurtz, who oversees the annual
30 Under 30 list. "Byron, Ali, and Brenton caught our attention at Inc.com because
they exhibit this trait in spades."
Inc.com chose its 30 finalists by selecting young entrepreneurs who have
developed new and innovative products and services recognized as new to an
industry. Recognition of those on the list is based on the companies the finalists
are running today but are also worth watching for the companies they've yet to
conceive but will start in the future.
